Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Die vorliegende Untersuchung fand im Rahmen eines technischen Gro versuchs zur Geruchssanierung zweier durch einen Abwasserkanal geruchsbelasteter Gebiete in Wien statt. In beiden Gebieten wurde entsprechend den VDI-Richtlinien (VDI 3883) die Geruchsbelästigung der betroffenen Bevölkerung erhoben, sowie die durchgeführten Geruchssanierungsma nahmen aus umweltpsychologischer Sicht evaluiert. Bei dem Projekt wurden erstmals zwei verschiedene Verfahren kombiniert, wodurch es möglich war, sowohl eine umfangreiche Erhebung der Umweltsituation als auch eine detailierte Erfassung der Geruchsbelästigung über einen längeren Zeitraum (Sommer 1999) zu erhalten. Durch den Einsatz von wiederholter Kurzbefragung (wöchentliche Abfragen) konnte eine von zwei getesteten Geruchssanierungsma nahmen als wirksam ausgewiesen werden. Die umweltpsychologische Evaluation zeigt hohe und statistisch signifikante Zusammenhänge zwischen der Geruchsbelästigung der AnrainerInnen und der H2S-Konzentration des Abwassers. Dies ist insofern interessant, da es üblicherweise nur geringe Ursache-Wirkungsbeziehungen zwischen Geruchsbelastung und resultierender Belästigungsreaktion gibt. Durch chemisch-physikalische Parameter konnten 59 % der Varianz der Geruchsbelästigung aufgeklärt werden. Au erdem wurde ein Einfluss von klimatologischen Verhältnissen (Luftdruck, Luftfeuchtigkeit) auf das Ausma der Geruchsbelästigung nachgewiesen. Durch die Einbeziehung der betroffenen Bevölkerung konnten dem Auftraggeber (Gemeinde Wien) - über die rein technische Evaluation hinausgehende - Informationen für die weitere Vorgehensweise erarbeitet werden.
