Surviving the Grief Cave is a moving and true story about one man's journey through deep grief and loss in search of new life, love, and faith.

Part 1 introduces Bob, Annie and Stephen, a family of three who are stricken by a life-threatening cancer diagnosis into their lives. They battle through dashed hopes and prayers, drug addiction and eventually death, which leads into the dark, lonely, and disorienting grief cave. There Bob confronts his burning anger toward a seemingly absent God and a crisis of faith in which he questions everything he believes. Although Bob's struggles deepen, he begins to find a way forward.

Part 2 chronicles Bob's spiritual odyssey as he walks the Camino de Santiago in Spain, a pilgrimage in which he hopes to find some clarity, peace, and direction. It's here where he meets courageous and kind souls from all over the world who, through their own stories and journeys, bring him insight and encouragement. And it's on the solitary paths of the Camino where he is guided in mystical ways he couldn't have imagined.

Part 3 begins with Bob's return, only to discover he didn't return home at all, and that his journey was far from over. He soon confronts an identity crisis in which the question: "Who am I now?" drives him to undertake another quest, like a second Camino, but internally. Here he encounters the person he had ignored for his entire life - himself. He makes other discoveries, including a key which may unlock the door to a new future, and a promising new relationship with someone he had already met. But what about finding a new home? And a new life? Not one free from grief, but one with love and connection.

This is a true story of rebirth that new life can be found through struggle, grief, and loss - one full of love, renewed faith, and hope.

McGuire, Bob: - Through his insightful writing, Bob McGuire takes the reader on his pilgrimage through intense grief into new life, love, and faith-from the physical world to the inner emotional dimension, and to the often camouflaged spiritual realm. He graduated from a California university in 1980 and went on to careers in the fields of energy production and information technology. Since childhood, he felt a connection with nature and the outdoors, so when grief invaded his life at 60 years old, he was drawn to walk the Camino de Santiago as one part of a multifaceted healing process. Grief also cracked open his lifelong hobby of personal journal writing into a more focused endeavor in the hope that his story will be helpful to those who find themselves in a similar struggle. He and his wife live in Southern California where they enjoy family, friends, and living life, grateful for the blessing of every single day.
