"Why I Won't Marry You & Neither Will He" is a humorous, blunt narrative, of the rapid decline of the American dating scene over the past decade. Through firsthand experiences Rocco dissects the sticking points that have kept him and many others from pursuing marriage. He details how the rise of social media and the decline of social decorum coupled with unrealistic expectations colliding with mismatched priorities has left those looking for love disillusioned and discouraged. Despite having more options and outlets to connect than ever before many young people are finding themselves alone, confused, and unsure how they got that way. His book provides the laughs and lessons needed in these desperate times.
Why I Won't Marry You & Neither Will HeSynopsis"Why I Won't Marry You & Neither Will He" began as a tale of a young man navigating competitive dating scenes. It details sticking points in his own pursuit of relationships and circumstances that ended them. Originally little more than a collection of humorous tales, it evolved into a book that conveys serious lessons. In the year 2025 many young people find themselves single, sad, angry, confused, and clueless as to how they got that way. Everyone is connected, yet many have seemingly disconnected from reality. Constantly responding to stimuli in the form of notifications from a six-inch screen, the modern American has morphed into a pseudo human. Concerned more with other's perceptions rather than their own natural instincts, many grapple with situations foreign to older generations. Some have chosen to eliminate interactions with others entirely. The fallout from the dramatic proliferation of technology and the relinquishment of privacy has obliterated the dating scene. America's culture of oneupmanship and rampant consumerism has led many to lead double lives. Showing one face to the world while avoiding the mirror when alone, many realize the current situation is untenable. Others do not. They only know they are unhappy, but they do not know why. Thousands of years of customs, traditions, and evolution, upended by supposed progress. Isolating into oblivion, many have devolved into Neanderthals hiding in caves. The only difference is those caves can now be found in suburban homes and city apartments. Actions, and behaviors that were considered taboo, now displayed for all to see. Not only are they revealed, but it is also expected they be accepted and celebrated. Most young people, especially young men have seen the writing on the wall. They want no part of it. They see too many obstacles and too many opportunities for self destruction. It was recently reported that forty percent of men under forty have not had sexual relations in over a year. They want to speak up, but they are afraid of being branded "toxic" or "hyper masculine." They see the women they want as unattainable. They see the rest as undesirable. Young women fare no better. Constant competition to attain the best has led to many forming unrealistic expectations. Seeking happiness through the purchase of things, many now find themselves alone, surrounded by objects that mean little in the grand scheme of things. Those who believe youth is eternal and superficiality reigns supreme; will rue the day they did not take the messages found within "Why I Won't Marry You & Neither Will He" to heart.• Author(s): Clear | James • Publisher: Penguin • Publisher Imprint: Penguin Random House • Subject: General Books
