""Man a Machine"" is a philosophical treatise written by Julien Offray de La Mettrie in the 18th century. The book presents a materialistic view of human nature, arguing that humans are essentially machines that operate on the principles of mechanics and physics. De La Mettrie believes that all human behavior, including emotions and thoughts, can be explained by physical processes in the brain and nervous system. He also argues that there is no such thing as a soul or a divine spark within humans, and that consciousness is simply a byproduct of physical processes. The book caused controversy upon its publication and was condemned by religious authorities for its perceived atheism and materialism. However, it has since become a significant work in the history of philosophy and has influenced many subsequent thinkers in the fields of psychology and neuroscience.Of the two alternatives, only one is possible: either everything is illusion, nature as well as revelation, or experience alone can explain faith.
