About The Book

This book of Selections provides ample opportunity to the English reader to form an adequate idea of the general character and scope of the Traditions, and will help missionaries in particular to a more sympathetic approach to the followers of the Arabian Prophet. In Islam, the Traditions occupy a place second only in importance to the Quran itself. They are described as a record of the words of the Prophet and his actions and what he permitted. As every word and act of the Prophet is for the Muslims a divine rule of faith and practice, the influence of the Traditions on the lives of millions, all over the world, is difficult to overestimate. In view of the fact that in modern days, intelligent Muslims place less reliance on many of the Traditions, the whole subject has been critically discussed through the Selections in the book.

About The Author

William Goldsack (1871–1957) was an Australian Baptist Missionary Society missionary to East Bengal (present day Bangladesh), India. He authored several books like Christ in Islam, Muhammad in Islam, and chiefly notable for undertaking the translation of Quran, spelt also as Koran, into Bengali language.
