Lao-Tzu: - Lao-Tse (also rendered Laozi) is the traditional author of the Tao Te King and a foundational figure in Taoist philosophy. Though historical details remain uncertain, the text attributed to him has exerted a lasting influence on Chinese thought, particularly in its treatment of governance, natural order, and the principles of balance and non-action.

Mears, Isabella: - Isabella Mears was an early twentieth-century translator whose work contributed to the introduction of Taoist philosophy to English-speaking audiences. Her rendering of the Tao Te King reflects a period of interpretive translation that emphasized accessibility while engaging with the conceptual depth of the original text.
