"Paradies: Liebe" ist ein Beispiel dafür, wie Ulrich Seidl seine Umwelt und die sozialen Verhältnisse auf eine schonungslose Art und Weise analysiert und reflektiert. Er ist ein bewusster Provokateur, der keine Schamgrenze kennt und inszeniert seine Protagonistin dementsprechend schamlos in einer gesellschaftlich anstö igen Thematik. In ihrer verzweifelten Hoffnung auf Liebe ist sie blind für die Realität und fällt naiv auf den kenianischen Beachboy Munga hinein. Teresa hält lange an ihrem Paradies Liebe fest, so ist ihr Fall nach der Erkenntnis, dass dieses Paradies nicht existiert, umso härter. Ulrich Seidl wurde am 24. November 1952 in Wien geboren und wuchs gemeinsam mit seinen vier Geschwistern in einer streng katholischen Familie auf. Er zählt zu einer der profiliertesten und gleichzeitig umstrittensten österreichischen Regisseure. Seit 2007 gelingt es ihm immer wieder, durch provokante Produktionen internationale Erfolge zu feiern. Als eines seiner Markenzeichen nennen Kritiker vor allem seine sarkastische und unbarmherzige Darstellungsweise, die sich wiederholenden, sehr langen Kameraeinstellungen, den häufigen Einsatz von Laiendarstellern und das Fehlen von Off-Kommentaren und Interviews in seinen Dokumentarfilmen. Seit 2001 arbeitet Seidl überwiegend an Spielfilmen, anstatt wie zuvor an Dokumentararbeiten. Vor allem seine "Paradies"-Trilogie, die er ab 2012 veröffentlichte, machte ihn in den letzten Jahren bekannter denn je. Ursprünglich war die Trilogie als ein einzelner, auf drei Handlungsebenen basierender Film geplant.
