What's your favorite Los Angeles landmark? Does it still stand, or is it just a memory? From famous icons to hidden gems, Los Angeles has amazing architecture as diverse as the city itself. But L.A.'s long tradition of reinvention has left beloved landmarks in its wake. This book highlights just a few of the many great buildings that fell to the wrecking ball, as well as some that narrowly escaped. The landmarks we almost lost might surprise you, and their survival offers hope for a future that celebrates our past.

Cindy Olnick is Director of Communications for the Los Angeles Conservancy, the nation's largest local historic preservation organization. She has been a proud member of the Photo Friends board of directors since 2010. She previously served on the board of the Recent Past Preservation Network and as an officer of the Los Angeles Conservancy's Modern Committee. A native of Columbus, Georgia, Cindy earned a bachelor's degree in mass communications from Boston University. She worked at a corporate communications firm in Cambridge, MA and managed communications for the Harvard Business School MBA Program. She and her husband Tom moved to Los Angeles in 2000, largely because of its architecture. They live in the neighborhood of Mt. Washington with their cat Doug. Cindy has an amazing family and the best in-laws ever.
