Ezequiel lleva casi una década fotografiando autos Ladas (2004-2015). Nadie sabe por qué lo hace y él mismo no tiene una idea definida de hasta dónde quiere llegar. Los Ladas comprados en Cuba, como todo lo demás, pertenecían al Estado revolucionario, de manera que fue el Estado quien se encargó no solo de distribuirlos dentro del sector público -organismos estatales, centrales de taxi, segu-ridad del Estado- sino también de determinar, a fuerza de dedo como quien dice, qué personas cum-plían con los requisitos para su tenencia. Seguramente podremos adivinarlo: militantes del partido, oficiales de alto rango, "acadé-micos o famosos atletas". Cuántos hombres y mujeres de los que figuran en el libro encontrado por Ezequiel en la basura, aque-lla tarde de 2009, resultaron orgullosos propietarios de un Lada? Cuántos se fueron con las manos vacías a pesar de "ser guías y ejemplos en el diario cumplimiento del deber y la salva-guarda de nuestra Revolución socialista"? La fijación de Ezequiel con los Ladas lleva este fenómeno a otros niveles. Novecientas fotografías de carros no son un asunto menor. Sin embargo, cabría preguntarse, ya que estamos meti-dos en el canal del objeto, su poder narrativo y los imaginarios que encierra, cómo conectaron los Ladas con la experiencia de vida cubana, cañoneada a una sovietización de corte estalinista a partir de los sesenta, si atendemos a la evidentísima distancia cultural que mediaba entre la Isla y la Europa del Este?

Graduado de la Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes San Alejandro, entre 1994 y 2000 fue curador y codirector, junto a la artista Sandra Ceballos, de Espacio Aglutinador, en La Habana. Pertenece a la colección del Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, La Habana; a The Patchett Collection, en Los Ángeles; así como a otras colecciones privadas en España, Francia, Bélgica y Estados Unidos.
