The original book of Last Chance Alaska has a colorful photo interior of a jouney around Alaska repeating photography taken in 1935-36 by Randolph Angus Douglas on his quest to find gold. This created the stark contrast between the then and now photographs, but also created a pricey book to purchase. Thus, the Grayscale Edition of Last Chance Alaska drastically reduced its cost. The drama, however, still remains of how it was and now is, but the reader may need to look more closely at the photographs, and maybe this is a good thing. Both books of LAST CHANCE ALASKA depict a story of two challenging journeys, one to search for gold in the mid-thirties and the other to retrace old photo destinations at the end of the 20th century. A captivating narrative accompanies the images and remains unchaned in both editions.

The Author was born in upstate New York just before Pearl Harbor in 1941. Her family was relocated from Rochester, NY to northern NJ due to job opportunities in the mid 1940's. Several years would pass until an additional move was necesssary to a more advantageous place for piano students to study. Nellie was a music teacher. The Douglas Music Studios in Pompton Plains, NJ was soon born. It is during this time that the Author began her ten year career in ballet. After high school, Jill studied at Fairleigh Dickenson University with a major in English and attended additional studies at Montclair State College in upper Montclair, NJ. Out of the blue an irresistable call came in from Radio City Music Hall asking her to begin rehearsing for their next show featuring The PINK PANTHER vovie. "It must have been that audition I took a year ago,"Jill said. Jill, too, married had children and opened a school. Hers was The Titusville Ballet Center in Titusville, Florida, opening 1976. In 2000-02 a quest began to repeat some photography takeen in 1935-36 by her father on his way to and while up in Alaska searching for gold and, Jill's long dormant writing career began to take off. LAST CHANCE ALASKA was followed by NELLIE'S HILL which includes Nellie's first ever cross-country road trip, repeat photographing from Florida to Seattle, WA.
