Just prior to the celebration of Milton Ross' 100th birthday, he attended a poetry writing class at the retirement park where he and his wife Ann reside. For one of his first assignments he wrote his "Thoughts on Being 100 Years Old" and at his birthday party read this aloud The reception was so enthusiastic that Milton was spurred on to continue writing. This resulted in a remarkable 2 years of creating poems about his family and friends, nature, and many major events throughout his long and fulfilling life. Even today as he turns 102, Milton looks and acts like a man many years younger. He continues his daily routine of an hour of exercises and stretching in the morning and twice daily pulls on his rowing machine of 100 strokes each. At the dinner table he continues to quote Chaucer and Shakespeare and remembers an incredible volume of family, social and political history. His hope is that you will enjoy the fruits of this labors and learn about his life and times and the long history that this collection provides.

Milton J. Ross was born Max Rosenberg on September 9, 1907 in New Britain, Connecticut. His sisters called him Milton as they preferred that to Max and the name stuck. After retirement, he obtained a copy of his birth certificate to applly for a passport. He discovered two things when the certificate arrived. First his birthday which he had always celebrated on the 6th of September was actually the 9th, making him 3 days younger, and second that his original name was Max. When he had shortened the name to Ross, he changed it legally from "Milton Rosenberg" to "Milton Ross," so between that misnomer and the wrong birthdate he may not really exist (legally anyway). The fact that he does very much exist is documented by these poems which he has penned over the last 2 years. They cover a wide range of topics and eras and give the meaning of this remarkable man. His careers included: High School Teacher of English Literature and Director of High School Plays Amy Sergeant during World War II Treasurer of a corporation called Tobacco Brands, from 1948 until retirement in 1976 Volunteer Tax Aide for the elderly: 1976-1999 Writer of Poetry: August 2007-present He loves to say that he has a Unitarain Family consisting of: 1 Wife 1 Son 1 Daughter in law 1 Grandson 1 Dog-Murphy (belonging to son and grandson) It is for these and the many loving friends and family members that he writes this book for all to enjoy.
