Kay Franke was a photographer and a long time volunteer and supporter of the PhotoCentral Program and the arts in Hayward, California. When she died in 2002, she left a rich body of hand painted silver gelatin prints of Powwow's and Native American portraits. This book is a record of vintage prints from the Kay Franke archive expressing both the traditions of Native Americans and of hand painted photography. Kay's evocative photographs are accompanied by the poetry of Victor Charlo, an elder of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.
