Un libro senza didascalie perché ogni fotografia è un racconto, saperle leggerle è importante, ascoltare il grido di disperazione e alienazione che viene da questi animali non è ignorabile. Il libro è diviso in temi e si apre con i tre tipi d'incontri ravvicinati più comuni o quantomeno ci si augura che così sia. Infatti, nell'ultima tema L'amore, la morte e la speranza, l'incontro ravvicinato con l'animale diviene morte per quest'ultimo. La testa mozzata sorridente, le lingue di fuori irrigidite dalla violenta morte sono il simbolo della razza umana che non ha ancora imparato a vivere senza ammazzare, soprattutto inutilmente. L'animale in città è l'emarginato per eccellenza, a meno che non sia dipendente o in una sua prigione dorata. Costretto a cibarsi degli scarti di una civiltà che sembra forte e opulenta, l'animale si arrabatta tra immondizia e tecnologia e cerca di sfruttare per le sue esigenze naturali, incomprensibili manufatti. L'arte di arrangiarsi diviene così modello di vita in quell'ambiente cementificato dove la natura che l'animale ha nel suo istinto è solo un debole richiamo lontano di un parco, un fiume, un lago, un giardino. I rari momenti in cui l'animale respira di nuovo libertà, gioia di vivere e amore sono l'unica forza vitale che l'animale trova in questa città dove un fiume di automobili non sono solo lo strumento della sua morte, ma anche il continuo frastuono puzzolente che tutto avvolge e tutto sporca...(segue nel libro)

Stefano è nato a Roma. In questa antica e magica città è cresciuto e qui affondano le sue radici che non gli hanno impedito di aggirarsi un po' per il mondo, tanto che oggi la sua saggezza è riassunta nella frase: ho girato e conosco la gente. Qui tra antiche vestigia e monoliti moderni ha completato il ciclo di studi di indirizzo industriale e ha cominciato a fare i primi passi nella fotografia professionale. Ha lavorato in storiche agenzie foto-giornalistiche rivestendo diversi ruoli: stampatore, fotografo, archivista. In tempi più recenti si è dedicato all'insegnamento della fotografia e dell'informatica professionale e ha tenuto seminari tematici. In tutto questo tempo però non ha smesso di scrivere perché la sua passione non si è mai spenta. Oggi in lui sono confluite tutte le esperienze di discipline diverse: fotografia, letteratura, informatica, arte frattale, pittura digitale. Questo fiume sta sfociando in una serie di pubblicazioni ogni volta di genere e tema diverso.
