Bridging the past with the present, critically acclaimed writer Jim Heynen complements Ohman's images with twenty-five beautifully crafted tales on the evolution of lunch pails, the consolidation of rural schools, profiles of bullies and teachers' pets, and the timeless wish of schoolchildren of all generations--school closing on "snow days"! About The Author

Doug Ohman is a photographer and popular public speaker. His photographs are featured in the Minnesota Byways series, which includes Barns of Minnesota, Churches of Minnesota, and Courthouses of Minnesota (all MHS Press). Jim Heynen has published widely, including his most recent story collection, The Boys House (MHS Press), and is Writer in Residence at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota.
