Author's comments . . .Somewhat Different contains a selection of 71 diverse photographs that I have chosen to reflect the diversity of my work, and to share some of my thoughts regarding their creation. Other than a few quotes, all words and images contained in the book are mine. Photos range from landscapes to closeups, including both images originating in camera or on a flat bed photo scanner.Subject matter runs from the landscapes mentioned above to still lifes, architectural, insects, flowers, old steam trains, and a lot more. Some are abstract in nature, while others present a more realistic quality.Most images in the book reflect a "somewhat different" approach. I try to present common subjects in a less common way. Although camera technique is important, my end results are very dependent on post capture processing. Processing, whether with very basic adjustments, or more extreme manipulations, is where I continue interpreting, and it is where I feel the magic happens.The goal, despite my use of digital processing, is to produce images that retain a rather traditional photographic appearance. When appropriate, I offer brief descriptions as to how an image was created. That can include information about equipment employed or processing applied. I sometimes offer discussion about composition, and my thoughts about how aspects of an image contribute to its success, or enjoyment.This book is intended primarily as a means of showing my work, with a secondary purpose of sharing some of my thoughts. I hope that both will be found to have some value.

A long time (old) photographer, I operated my own commercial photography studio and custom lab for many years. Services offered included retouching, art work, and airbrushing. This book serves my desire to share both valid information, as well as opinions that have derived from a good bit of personal experience. Today I am a total digital convert, enjoying photography as never before. As awesome as digital cameras are, the real attraction of digital for me is the power and ease of post capture processing. Compared to the days of film, it simply blows me away. My current photographic pursuits are now purely personal, but I seem to have held on to an appreciation for photographs that (for the most part) resemble photos from the film era. I have not (yet?) developed a taste for over the top values or extreme HDR images. Recently, Feb of 2017, I opened Wild Rose Gallery in Fort Davis, Texas. The gallery is a showcase for my current photography, which is quite diverse in subject matter and style.
