This unique book explores the history of Cumbria via ten ancient routes that wind through some of the most spectacular parts of the Lake District and the rest of the county. Illustrated throughout with Steve Pipe's stunning photography and inspired by Wainwright's Old Roads of Eastern Lakeland, this book will appeal to those interested in history as well as lovers of all things associated with Wainwright. The ten routes include the Roman road over High Street, the Cistercian Way (Barrow to Grange-over-Sands) and the Old North Road and encompass ancient stone circles, religious and industrial heritage, Beatrix Potter, the Second World War and much, much more.

Pipe: - Beth & Steve returned to Steve's roots in Cumbria in January 2011. What started out as an enthusiastic and popular blog developed into a strong following across social media and led to writing and photography commissions for a variety of magazines and websites. They currently work with a range of organisations and publications including Cumbria Wildlife Trust, The Outdoor Guide with Julia Bradbury and the Camping and Caravanning Club. As experienced hikers they tackle the outdoors in all weathers to find the spectacular and the dramatic be that a far-reaching panorama or a tiny ecosystem hidden away within limestone crags. Such is their knowledge of the Cumbrian landscape that they were invited by Kensington Palace to guide the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on a recent walk. They've also taken a keen interest in the history and geology of the region.
