While growing up, I always had a fascination with history. I would constantly watch adventure movies and ask my father anything and everything I could about eras past. As I grew older, this interest led me to discover the subculture of urban exploration, or "urbex" for short. Urbex involves venturing out to discover abandoned locations to explore and photograph. This spoke to an "Indiana Jones" complex I harbored deep inside myself, and throughout the 2010s, I started dipping my feet into the not-so-clear waters of this activity. Once the Pandemic hit, I had more free time, and urbex became a personal mainstay. There is something truly magical about entering into a space that is slowly falling into ruins from a clash between nature and humanity. Throughout my time as an "urbexer" I have seen some incredible places, met some amazing creators, and discovered new ways to express and create art within and through abandonment. The following is my photography of some of the places I've been and the stories that have emerged. These are the Totems of Seguro.
