Prokopjev, Aljoscha: - "Aljoscha Prokopjev (Alexei Petrovich Prokopyev) Born in 1957 in Cheboksary. He studied art history at Moscow State University, but came early to the understanding that his true artistic territory would be language itself - native and foreign, overheard and discovered. He lived and worked in Moscow, and has been based in Berlin since 2022.He is the author of four collections of poetry: Night Watchman, One Day, Snow Troy, and Metaphysics of Clothing. His new collection, Fragments of the Future, was written at the intersection of cities, languages, and voices. He translates poetry from Chuvash, English, German, Swedish, Danish, and Italian. The poets he has translated include Hölderlin, Novalis, Nietzsche, Rilke, Georg Trakl, Gottfried Benn, Georg Heym, Paul Celan, Herta Müller, Tomas Tranströmer, Inger Christensen, and others. He understands translation as a continuation of the original work's life within the Russian language. He is a recipient of the Andrei Bely Prize, as well as the Poeziya and Master awards. In 2025 he was awarded a Work Stipend (Arbeitsstipendium) by the Berlin Senate. He is the founder and curator of the Cheboksary Festival of Contemporary Poetry GolosaA ("Voices," established 2006, in memory of Gennady Aygi), and since 2023 has curated an online space for live readings and an exchange of voices. He lives and works in Berlin. For this edition he has prepared a complete collection of the poems of Georg Trakl in his own translations and with original commentary - the result of many years of work devoted to returning the poetry of German Expressionism to a living Russian context."
