About The Author

Franklin, Krista: - Krista Franklin is a poet and visual artist. She earned an MFA in interdisciplinary arts from Columbia College Chicago. Her work has been published in Poetry magazine, The Offing, Black Camera, Copper Nickel, Callaloo, BOMB Magazine, Encyclopedia, Vol. F-K and L-Z, and the anthologies The End of Chiraq: A Literary Mixtape (2018), The BreakBeat Poets: New American Poetry in the Age of Hip-Hop (2015), and Gathering Ground (2006). Her work has exhibited at Rootwork Gallery, Produce Model, The Studio Museum in Harlem, Chicago Cultural Center, The Cornell Fine Arts Museum, The Columbia Museum of Art, National Museum of Mexican Art, and was featured on 20th Century Fox's Empire. A Cave Canem fellow, Franklin lives and works in Chicago.

Norman Ellis, Kelly: - Kelly Norman Ellis is the author of Tougaloo Blues (2003) and Offerings of Desire (2012, 2025). Her poetry has appeared in Sisterfire: Black Womanist Fiction and Poetry, Boomer Girls, Essence Magazine, Obsidian, Cornbread Nation, and most recently Teaching Black: The Craft of Teaching on Black Life and Literature, Wherever I'm At: An Anthology of Chicago Poetry, and What Things Cost: an anthology for the people. Ellis received her PhD from the University of Kentucky and is a founding member of Affrilachian Poets. She is a recipient of a Kentucky Foundation for Women Writer's grant and is a Cave Canem Fellow. Ellis is Chairperson of the English Department at Chicago State University.
