Thus, in order to introduce the Indian students to the subject of 'Comparative Politics', the present Volume though rich in material, written in simple language and handy in size, is designed to present a simplified description of different aspects of Comparative Politics. The book will not only cater well to the requirements of those engaged in the study of Comparative Politics for Postgraduate degree in Indian Universities but also be equally useful to those interested in acquiring a core knowledge of this fast expanding discipline of Political Science.

Dr. Vidya Bhushan (born February 14, 1937) graduated from Government Gandhi Memorial (Arts) College, Jammu in 1958. He, then, joined Muslim University, Aligarh from where he obtained his M.A. degree in Political Science and LL.B. in 1962 and 1963 respectively. He started his career in the Education Department of Jammu and Kashmir Govern­ment and continued to serve it till 1967. During this period he had worked as a Lecturer in Political Science in the Govern­ment Colleges at Poonch and Udhampur. In July, 1967, he joined the Postgraduate Department of Political Science of Jammu and Kashmir University at Jammu Division, Jammu (now the University of Jammu) and has been working there since then. He got his Ph.D. degree from this University in 1980. He has been contributing articles and research papers on the different aspects of State Politics in India, with particular reference to Jammu and Kashmir in reputed Indian Journals as well as in Newspapers. His other publications include State Politics and Government; Jammu and Kashmir, and Evolution of Democratic Institutions in Indian Polity. At present, he is Professor in the Post-graduate Department of Political Science, University of Jammu, Jammu (Tawi).
