In the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, artificial intelligence (AI) stands out as a pivotal technological innovation. Between 1976 and 2011, millions of Chinese students studied at Western universities, gaining expertise in engineering, computer sciences, and natural sciences. Many returned to China to become tech entrepreneurs, significantly contributing to the country's technological advancements. The book examines how the emergence of a Chinese Middle Class has put China into a favorable position in high technology generally, and AI in particular. It offers a unique perspective on the intersection of technological innovation, economic policy, and international relations in the digital age.

Jon-Arild Johannessen is a Full Professor of Leadership at Kristiania University College, Oslo, Norway. He holds a Master of Science from Oslo University in History, and a Ph.D. from Stockholm University, Sweden, in Systemic thinking. Previously, he was a Full Professor of Innovation at the University of Southern Denmark. He has also been a Full Professor of Management at The Arctic University, Norway. At Bodø Graduate School of Business, Norway, he was a Full Professor of Information Management, and he has been a Full Professor in Knowledge Management at the Norwegian School of Management.
