Konturen des Transformationsprozesses Die Arbeitsgemeinschaft Sozialwissenschaftlicher Institute e. V. (ASI) hat sich seit der Wende der Vereinigungsproblerne in ih- ren wissenschaftlichen Jahresversammlungen immer wieder an- genommen. So schon im Oktober 1990, als im Plenarsaal der Akademie der Wissenschaften (AdW) unter reger Beteiligung aus Ost- und Westdeutschland Uber die "Sozialforschung in Deutschland und Europa" (MUnchen 1991) beraten wurde. Ging es hier vorwiegend urn wissenschaftsorganisatorische Probleme, so standen im folgenden Jahr in Weimar unter der Uberschrift "Gesellschaftlicher Urnbruch 1945-1990: Re-Demokratisierung und Lebensverhaltnisse" (MUnchen 1992), vor aHem aber auf der Jahresversarnmlung am 28. 10. 1994 in Halle, die hier doku- mentiert wird, unter der Uberschrift "Transformationsprozesse in Deutschland" inhaltliche Fragestellungen im Mittelpunkt. Die Forschungsbefunde zu diesem Thema sind kaum noch Uber- schaubar. Sie wurden noch durch hunderte von Forschungsbe- richten bereichert, die auf dem SoziologiekongreB in Halle, der im FrUhjahr 1995 unter dem Titel "Gesellschaften im Umbruch" abgehalten wurde, prasentiert wurden. Wie laBt sich hier ein Uberblick gewinnen? Eine Bilanz - und sei sie noch so holz- schnittartig - tut not. Ob der Dualisrnus zwischen Ost- und Westdeutschland groBer oder kleiner wird, HiSt sich nicht pauschal beantworten. Die Analyse einzelner Bereiche ermoglicht eindeutigere Antworten. Vier Dimensionen des Vereinigungprozesses mochte ich an- sprechen: 8 Heinz Sahner 1. die Ebene der individuellen Freiheiten, 2. die Ebene der Institutionen, 3. die materielle und okonomische Dimension und schlie61ich 4. die mentale und soziale Dimension, also die Akteure selbst.
