The book is about expected relationship of politicians and bureaucrats, and public expectations from them in their decision performance. It is based on the research work which has tested 262 hypotheses along with equal number of variables in this study from the data retrieved from the All India Services Officers (AISO). Findings have been presented in this book after scrutinizing and measuring the impact of pressure in the decision-making process of public administration. The book studies AISO’s behaviour, biographic orientation, locus of control, motivation, life-style orientation, cultural aspects, conflict management, risk taking behaviour, innovations and workplace environment in decision making process under political pressure. It includes the impact of 22 modes of the political pressure. Fifteen most important reasons to accept political pressure have been studied and ten major sources of political pressure (PM/CM to village level) have been analyzed to find out intensity of pressure exerted from these sources on the 76 areas/types.
The book presents the results regarding measurement of pressure exertion from different sources, modes, types of areas, and reasons for accepting pressure. It includes different techniques for effective management of pressure and its effective handling in decision making process. Based on research analyses of different variables, it also proposes new strategies for future management of government administration. Issue of civil services reforms have been described at length with reference to behavioral variables of bureaucrats. Reorganizing or restructuring solutions to improve decisions in public administration have been explained.
Since the book provides insight reading about individual bureaucrat and bureaucratic system, it will be useful for public at large, corporate houses, training institutions, students, researchers, bureaucrats, or for anyone who wants to understand the working of the Central or the State/UT Governments.
