The book (in two volumes) studies the Western or European political thought and its development from its beginning in the speculations of the early Greeks. The study has been confined to leading western thinkers and the contribution of each of them to the growth of political ideas. The book covers detailed study of socialism and democratic socialism with all its forms such as Fabian socialism and symbolism. Communism based on Marxist thinking has been reinterpreted, molded, and amended by Lenin and Stalin in Russia and by Mao-Tse-Tung in China. Ideas of these thinkers have been presented in a very simple and lucid language. Impact of Anarchism, Fascism, and Pluralism in Russia, Italy, Germany, and Britain, including its colonial empire, has been very well explained. Opinions of modern thinkers about new political traditions in the West have also been given in brief.
Aim of the author has been to place the ideas of political thinkers in the easiest possible language and to achieve this purpose, he has followed easy interpretations. He has chosen to follow the historical and objective method and confined himself to give an accurate exposition of the views of political philosophers together with fair and reasonable criticism of their views from various stand points. Controversial matters have been dealt with in such a way that scientific and objective conclusions may be drawn. The book deals with conflicting political ideas but author has made an attempt to describe these ideas with objective outlook in easiest possible manner, in order to make it useful to students as well as to common reader.
