Geistliche Begleitung als spezifisches Gesprächsangebot, welches Themen der Spiritualität ins Zentrum rückt, hat in den letzten Jahren an Bedeutung gewonnen. Wer den gegenwärtigen "Markt" Geistlicher Begleitung kritisch durchleuchtet, stellt fest, dass dieses Label viel weniger einheitlich ist als bisweilen suggeriert wird. Es vereint Angebote, die hinsichtlich des mit ihnen geförderten geistlichen Gestaltungsprozesses deutlich divergieren, insofern als sie sich an unterschiedlichen Entwicklungsmomenten und Zieldimensionen orientieren. Die vorliegende Studie hat es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht, Prozesse Geistlicher Begleitung zu analysieren und in theologischer Perspektive zu diskutieren, wobei dies im Blick auf den gesellschaftlichen und religiösen Kontext erfolgt, in dem Geistliche Begleitung heute stattfindet. Die Untersuchung geht davon aus, dass die Wahrnehmung für diesen Kontext geschärft wird durch die konsequente Thematisierung von Pluralität, wie sie in der Postmoderne geschieht und im ersten Teil der Arbeit in Auseinandersetzung u.a. mit religionsphilosophischen und sozialpsychologischen Diskursen vollzogen wird. Die Bestimmung des Gestaltungsprozesses Geistlicher Begleitung wird im zweiten Teil der Arbeit im Rahmen einer aszetischen Relecture von Bonhoeffers Briefen aus der Haft, die für den gegenwärtigen Kontext neu aufgeschlüsselt werden, theologisch vertieft.
