A principios del siglo XX, la psicolog�a se encontraba en una encrucijada entre la filosof�a introspectiva y la ciencia experimental emergente. En este panorama apareci� John B. La idea de Watson era enga�osamente simple, pero revolucionaria: las emociones no son misterios innatos incomprensibles, sino respuestas condicionadas, aprendidas mediante la asociaci�n y la experiencia. As� como los perros de P�vlov aprendieron a salivar al son de una campana, los humanos pod�an aprender a temer, amar o sentir alegr�a en respuesta a est�mulos que antes eran neutrales. Su ahora famoso experimento del "Peque�o Alberto" ilustr� este principio v�vidamente, mostrando c�mo un objeto previamente indiferente pod�a llegar a provocar miedo al asociarse con un evento aversivo. Aunque �ticamente problem�tico seg�n los est�ndares modernos, este estudio marc� un punto de inflexi�n en la psicolog�a, desplazando el enfoque de la especulaci�n interna al comportamiento emocional observable.
