Wiihrend des 19. lahrhun- derts predigten die Assoziationisten eine Gleichheits- doktrin und drei Reformgesetzentwiirfe wurden ver- abschiedet. - Sir Cyril Burt (1955,167) Dieses Buch befaBt sich mit einer einzigen Hauptfrage: Sind Werte aus Intelli- genz-Tests (Intelligenzquotienten; im folgenden abgekiirzt I. Q. s) erblich? Die Ant- wort lautet aus der iibereinstimmenden Sicht der meisten Intelligenz-Tester, daB ungefahr 80% der individuellen Variation bei I. Q. -werten genetisch determiniert ist. Das ist keine neue SchluBfolgerung. Pearson stellte 1906 fest, bevor der weit verbreitete Gebrauch des Intelligenztests einsetzte, daB der "EinfluB der Umwelt nirgend wo mehr als 1/5 dessen der Erblichkeit ist und m6glicherweise nicht ein- mal 1/10 von ihr". Herrnstein (1971, 57) kam bei einem Riickblick liber die Ge- schichte des Intelligenz-Testens bis 1971 zu folgendem SchluB: "Wir diirfen des- halb sagen, daB 80% bis 85% der I. Q. -Variation unter WeiBen den Genen zuzu- schreiben ist". Die vorliegende Arbeit gelangt zu zwei SchluBfolgerungen. Die erste stammt aus einer detaillierten Dberpriifung des empirischen Beweismaterials, das zur Un- terstiitzung der Auffassung iiber die Erblichkeit angefiihrt wurde; diese kann ein- fach dargelegt werden. Es existieren keine Daten, die einen besonnenen Mann dazu bringen k6nnten, die Hypothese zu akzeptieren, daB I. Q. -Werte in irgendeinem MaBe erblich sind.
