Die Meinungen tiber den Einfhill sportlichen Tuns auf die Personlichkeitsstruktur gehen daher weit auseinander. Sie reichen yom riickhaltlosen Glauben an seine charakterlich veredelnde Kraft bis zum leidenschaftlichen Anprangem seiner moglichen verderblichen Auswir- kungen. Der Verfasser hat es sich deshalb seit vielen Jahren zur Aufgabe gemacht, werturteilsfreie Untersuchungen tiber den EinfluB regeImlillig und intensiv betriebener Leibestibungen auf die Entwicklung der Person- lichkeit anzustellen. Hierbei bot sich die Beobachtung von Personen in spannungsgeladenen, aufwiihlenden und konflikttrachtigen Situationen des Sports gleichsam von selbst an. Begtinstigt doch die freiheitliche sport- liche Atmosphare eine weitgehende Offenlegung des im Alltagsgeschehen unter der Schminke konventioneller Verhaltensnormen verborgenen Cha- rakterprofils. In eingehenden Vorversuchen wurden deshalb diejenigen Testsituationen ermittelt und erprobt, die gtinstige Moglichkeiten ftir eine grtindliche Eindrucks-und Verhaltensanalyse und damit iir zutreffende Aussagen tiber eine Reihe ausgewiihlter Eigenschaften zulassen. Der Siche- rung dieses psychodiagnostischen Verfahrens galten die 1955 mit der Carl- Diem-Plakette ausgezeichneten Untersuchungen zur Thematik Sport und Personlichkeit (erschienen bei Johann Ambrosius Barth, Mtinchen 1956). Erst nach Abscb. luB dieser methodischen Vorarbeit konnte mit den ur- sprtinglich geplanten Untersuchungen tiber die Ausformung einzelner Eigenschaften im Verlaufe der leiblim-seelismen EntWicklung im Jugend- alter begonnen werden. Die Ergebnisse dieser zehnjahrigen Forschungs- arbeit werden hiermit vorgelegt.
