Was Imre Hermann 1934 hei der Herausgahe der ersten Auflage von "Psycho- analyse als Methode" zur Frage der klaren Begriffshestimmung heitrug, konzen- triert sich auf einen Sonderfall der Psychotherapie: die Psychoanalyse. Er setzt heim Leser eine allgemeine Kenntnis vonderen Eigenart, Biologie, Psychologie und Anthropologie voraus. Er versucht zunachst das Wesen ihrer methodischen Anwendung aufzuhellen. Er arheitet dahei gelegentlich mit Vergleichen, die plastisch greifhare Bilder in un sere Erinnerung an wissenschaftliche Autoritaten zuriicluufen, heispielsweise werden Johannes Miillers Phantastische Gesichts- erscheinungen ausgewertet, diese hilden fiir die methodologische Diskussion eines der Modelle zur Darstellung der analytischen Ausgangss, ituation. Der Autor verdankt es seiner philosophischen Bildung, seiner Liehe zur Logik, seiner Er- fahrung in der Psychotherapie und seiner Kenntnis der Psychophysik eines Gustav Theodor Fechner, daB er als Forscher und Denker zu scharfen und klaren Formulierungen von reprasentativem Charakter fahig ist. Er giht auch klare Begriffe davon, was er - der erfahrene Psychiater und Psychoanalytiker - unter "aktiver" und "passiver" Technik versteht und handhaht, seit Freud, Stekel, Landauer u. a. eines der altesten und der aktuellsten Prohleme der analytischen Technik. Der Autor exemplifiziert seine Auffassung von Ich und Kausalitat, Kastrationskomplex und Urtrauma, um nur diese immer wieder diskutierten Forschungsohjekte zu nennen. Die Selhstandigkeit seines Denkens heweist sich in der kritischen Auseinander- setzung mit Freuds Metapsychologie und mitder Parapsychologie.
