Der Ausblick ist verwirrend und bedriickend. Kein Wunder, wenn die ersten Psychotherapeuten, als sie das ., Durcheinander der Seelenfaden" gewahr wurclen. zu den Vor- stellungen der altvertrauten, somatischen Medizin zuriickgriffen und das Psychische mit den Gesetzen des Korpers zu erklaren versuchten. Man redete von der Quantitat, dem Mechanismus, der Energie der Seele und glaubte, auf diese Art und Weise das Seelische fest in der Hand zu haben. Aber die Enttauschung lieB nicht lange auf sich warten. Schmerzlich muBte der Arzt erkennen, daB mit den organischen Gesetzen im Psychi- schen sehr wenig anzufangen ist. Das Seelische zeigte eine andere Struktur als das Organische. Das hatte man hinzunehmen, so bitter es auch fUr den mit den Gesetzen des Korpers so vertrauten:: \iediziner gewesen war. Man muBte aber einsehen, daB eine Wahrnehmung etwas anderes ist als ein ProzeB im Gehirn, ein seelisches GefUhl sich nicht aus korperlichen Elementen zusammensetzen liiBt und in der Psyche keine meBbaren Quantitaten anzutreffen sind.
