Angesichts der Tatsache, daB heutzutage bei der Gesamtbevolkerung in der Bundesrepublik das Verhaltnis Manner zu Frauen 100: 109 betragt, bei den tiber 65jahrigen jedoch 100: 166, und daB nach neuesten Trendberechnungen im Jahre 1980 auf nur 100 Manner 180 tiber 65jahrige Frauen kommen werden und 1990 sogar ein Verhaltnis 100: 260 bei den tiber 65jahrigen vorzufinden sein wird, ange- sichts der Tatsache, daB dann mehr als zwei Drittel der Betagten Frauen sind, soUte sich die Gerontologie starker als bisher urn den Alternsproze/1 der Seniorinnen berniihen. Mogen die hier vorgelegten Arbeiten den Gerontologen einen AnstoB zum Nachdenken geben! Aber, so wie einerseits innerhalb der Gerontologie die Frauenfrage bisher weit- gehend ausgeklammert blieb, so wurde andererseits innerhalb der Diskussion urn Frauenprobleme die Altersfrage bisher sehr stark vernachlassigt. Die zum Teil sehr heftig geftihrten Streitgesprache urn die eigentliche Rolle der Frau", urn ihre Stellung in Familie und Beruf, sind vorwiegend an der Lebenssituation im jtingeren und mittleren Erwachsenenalter orientiert und ignorieren geradezu die Lebens- situation der Frau im hoheren Alter. Mogen die Beitrage dieses Buches auch in dieser Richtung das Blickfeld weiten und bei den Diskussionen urn Frauenfragen die Notwendigkeit einer Sicht der ganzen Lebensspanne deutlich werden lassen.
