Surgida a mediados del siglo XX en la intersecci�n del pensamiento psicoanal�tico, la etolog�a y la teor�a de sistemas, la obra de John Bowlby represent� un cambio decisivo en la comprensi�n de la vida relacional temprana. Rechazando las explicaciones reduccionistas de los v�nculos entre el beb� y su cuidador, Bowlby plante� la propuesta radical de que el apego es un sistema conductual con base evolutiva, organizado en torno a la necesidad del beb� de proximidad a una figura protectora y calibrado por las contingencias ambientales.

La teor�a del apego introdujo una explicaci�n biol�gica del desarrollo emocional, postulando que las interacciones tempranas con los cuidadores generan modelos internos de trabajo: esquemas cognitivo-afectivos que gu�an las expectativas sobre uno mismo, los dem�s y las relaciones a lo largo de la vida. Estos modelos, formados en contextos relacionales concretos, se convierten en la base de la regulaci�n afectiva, la exploraci�n, la resiliencia y la vulnerabilidad a la psicopatolog�a.
