En el siglo XV, cuando los europeos pisaron tierra venezolana, se prendaron de sus islas, sobre todo de Paraguachoa (Isla Margarita), situada al noreste de Venezuela en el Mar Caribe. Mi padre, Aníbal Gómez Ortega, relataba que sus antepasados eran canarios y que arribaron a Margarita en un buque, cuyo mástil sirvió de base a la Quinta Santa Rita en el Valle del Espíritu Santo. Este mito primordial de nuestra familia, se ancló en mi mente, como la nave de nuestros ancestros en tierra firme margariteña, forjando un trecho del presente hacia el pasado. Aquí se presenta la breve, pero brillante historia de hombres y mujeres de las familias Gómez y Ortega a través de nueve generaciones. DE LOS AUTORES

La doctora Grisel Gómez-Cano reside en Onalaska, Texas. Antropóloga, educadora y escritora, por los últimos diez años, su pasión ha sido colectar testimonios orales para reconstruir el pasado de grupos minoritarios hispanos en Texas, y ahora, en éste, su séptimo libro, el de sus familiares. Casada con Lorenzo Cano, su mayor orgullo son sus cuatro hijos y ocho nietos. Eduardo A. Navarro Rodríguez nació en Coro, Estado Falcón, Venezuela. Desde muy joven estuvo aficionado a la tecnología, lo que lo impulsó a obtener una licenciatura en Ingeniería de Computadoras de la Universidad de Puerto Rico. Su afición por la genealogía la heredó de su padre, Luis Aníbal Navarro Gómez. Vive en Seattle, Washington, con sus dos hijos Eduardo Andrés y Andrea Isabel Navarro Sánchez. Este es su primer libro.
