The values are the principles of behavioural conduct, that help in distinguishing between right and wrong, or good and bad. They guide the human beings to the righteous path and inspire them to live in harmony with society, the world at large and nature itself. India’s ancient literature, religious or otherwise, abounds in righteous teachings.
The enforcement of the ethical laws had been ensured through two very powerful agencies; the concept of Paap and Punya and that of Rajdanda, the fear of law plus two social factors; Lok Ninda (public criticism) and the presence of inspiring role models in the society. There seems to be a slackening in all four as of now.
This book provides a peep into those behavioural values of India which are essentially universal in appeal and acceptance. The appropriate and apt use of pithy sayings and proverbs has helped in presenting the ideas in a simple and comprehensible way.
The liberal deployment of references from mythology and examples from day-to-day life, to illustrate a particular human value, has also added an interesting dash to the readability of the book.
The holistic way of life as preached in scriptures after scriptures has been at the core of this book. It is hoped that the work will be refreshing to those who are well versed in these eternal values and enlightening for the younger generations.
