“He who conquers others is strong; he who conquers himself is mighty.”
Tao Te Ching by Lao Tzu is one of the most influential texts in Eastern philosophy, offering timeless wisdom on living in harmony with the universe. Written over two millennia ago, this short yet profound work consists of eighty-one verses that explore key Taoist principles, such as simplicity, humility, non-action and the balance between opposites. Lao Tzu urges readers to embrace the natural flow of life, encouraging personal transformation and spiritual growth. His teachings on leadership, governance and personal development emphasise the importance of balance and understanding the interconnectedness of all things. Tao Te Ching continues to inspire individuals seeking inner peace, clarity and wisdom, making it a must-read for anyone interested in philosophy, spirituality and self-discovery."
Lao Tzu (also spelled Laozi) was an ancient Chinese philosopher and the founder of Taoism. While details of his life remain largely mythical, he is traditionally believed to have lived during the 6th century BCE. Lao Tzu is considered one of China’s greatest thinkers, with his ideas focused on the concept of the “Tao” (the Way), which emphasises living in harmony with the natural order. He believed in simplicity, humility and the importance of understanding the world through quiet contemplation. Lao Tzu’s philosophy advocates for the value of non-action (Wu Wei), or the idea that individuals should act in accordance with the flow of nature rather than through force or control. His teachings have had a profound influence on Chinese culture, shaping not only Taoist philosophy but also Chinese art, politics and spirituality. His legacy continues to inspire philosophical thought globally.
