A kingdom in turmoil. A preacher in prison. A visit that changes everything-and a story that points to a faith stronger than fear.

A small island kingdom off the coast of France stands on the brink of change. The year is 1789, and the shockwaves of the French Revolution stir debate and unrest throughout the realm. When the aging king orders the arrest of the university's rector, the beloved preacher and teacher Edward Sandcreek tries to intervene-and finds himself behind bars.

As the kingdom awaits his trial, Edward receives an unexpected visit from a mysterious lady-and begins to wonder: how can God's promises come true in such a time as this?

Yet beyond romance and tension, this story seeks to spark deeper reflection: how faith in Christ should shape the way we live, strengthen us to run the race to the finish, and inspire us to pass on the torch of faith to the next generation.

The book is inspired by Dan Mohler's teaching.

Excerpt:
"Sometimes I really struggle to understand a woman's brain," Camille Desmoulins said. "But it has something in common with the Bastille fire. You never know how one tiny, unintentional spark can cause an unplanned explosion. You're a brave man, Mr. President, for daring to step into such a powder keg. I think if I ever find the courage to marry, I'll come to you for advice."
"Shakespeare wrote a great book on that subject," Adrien Boucher remarked.
Nicolette looked at him with narrowed eyes and asked, "Do you mean Much Ado About Nothing?" Even though she knew perfectly well he was alluding to the book The Taming of the Shrew.
"Exactly," Adrien Boucher replied promptly, "that's what women do all the time."
"Whereas the world of men, that's The Comedy of Errors, isn't it?" Nicolette retorted. "Though I don't know why it's called a comedy - sometimes it's rather tragic!"
Adrien raised an eyebrow, shook his head and looked at Edward. "If it's As You Like It, then enjoy navigating through The Tempest. But I can't help wondering-did you even read The Bestiary before acting on A Midsummer Night's Dream of yours?"
Nicolette stood up angrily. "If you'll excuse me, gentlemen, I'm right in the middle of reading the Ship of Fools and I'd like to finish it," she said sharply.
Edward cleared his throat. "I was just about to start The Art of Silence-does anyone know it?" he looked around at his companions. The question was meant for all of them.
