The definitive guide to the state of the art of perinatal stem cells

Now in a fully updated second edition, this seminal work on perinatal stem cells focuses on the very latest research and major advances in the clinical use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) from pregnancy-related sources. With contributions from world-renowned stem cell scientists, this volume showcases the enormous therapeutic potential of these cell sources and reviews the growing perinatal stem cell industry within the stem cell and regenerative medicine field.

The new edition presents cutting-edge information on stem cells harvested from amniotic fluid, the placenta, maternal blood supply, the umbilical cord, and Wharton's jelly. For each of the sources of pregnancy-related stem cells, the book describes the underlying biology, cell culture, and potential therapeutic uses. It also offers insights from obstetricians and gynecologists, cardiologists, hematologists, tissue engineers, and cord blood bankers. Perinatal Stem Cells, Second Edition

  • Includes a new industry section on stem cell banking and regenerative medicine as well as the patenting of stem cell innovations
  • Highlights the advantages of using perinatal stem cells over induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) or embryonic stem cells
  • Details specific stem cell isolation techniques and other strategies for collecting, processing, and using perinatal cell sources
  • Describes clinical applications in such areas as transplantation, traumatic brain injury, liver disease, and stroke therapy

Readers will find a comprehensive overview of this rapidly emerging field, discover what some of the top researchers from around the world are working on, and learn about the remarkable regenerative qualities and clinical potential of perinatal stem cells.
