Das erste Kapitel dieses Bumes geht auf einen Vortrag zuruck, den im an der Universitat Hamburg im Januar 1952 gehalten habe. 1m danke den Herren Professoren Lentz und Spuler, mit denen im mim iiber die hier be- handelten Fragen naher unterhalten konnte. Gewisse Absmnitte des ersten Kapitels, vor aHem das altorientalisme Material betreffend, habe im aum als Vortrag in der finnismen OrientgeseHsmaft an der Universitat Helsinki im November 1963 zur Diskussion gesteHt. In diesem Zusammenhang danke im vor aHem meinem KoHegen und Freunde, Prof. A. Salonen. Endlich habe ich am 19. April 1967 in der Arbeitsgemeinsmaft fiir Forschung des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen die hauptsamlimen Ergebnisse meiner Untersumun- gen, vor aHem solme, die in Kapitel I und III zu finden sind, vortragen kon- nen. Sowohl die Diskussion in Helsinki wie die in Diisseldorf bramten ver- smiedene Anregungen, die in diesem Bume zu verarbeiten mir leider nimt moglim gewesen ist. Das Material war smon so umfassend, so iiberreim, daB im mim besmranken muBte. Gewisse Absmnitte meiner Forsmungen iiber den iranismen Feudalismus wurden zur Entlastung dieses Bumes bereits fruher publiziert, namlich "Rechermes sur Ie feodalisme iranien", "Die Be- griffe, Populorum ordo' und, ram' als Ausdriicke der Standesgliederung im Partherreiche" und "Ober einige Probleme in der altpersischen Geschichte" (Absmnitte II und III). 1m verweise auf diese Untersuchungen.
