Das vorliegende Buch ist aus einer Vorlesung entstanden, die ich an der Ruhr-Universitiit Bochum im Rahmen des Zyklus "Struktur der Materie" gehalten habe und die fUr Studenten nach dem Vorexamen (ab 5. Semester) bestimmt war. In dieser dreistiindigen Vorlesung konnten natiirlich nur Ausschnitte aus dem Gesamtgebiet gebracht werden (Ergiinzung durch eine Stunde Obungen). Es wurde daher versucht, grundlegende Dinge zu be- sprechen, und selbst dies konnte nur in Auswahl geschehen, wenn man erfahrungsgemii vorhandene Verstiindnisschwierigkeiten durch etwas genauere, auch theoretische Betrachtungen beheben wollte und damit den Zugang zur weitergehenden Literatur erleichtern wollte. Fur die AusfUhrung einer Vielzahl von Berechnungen, die Herstellung von Zeichnungen und fUr Photoarbeiten danke ich herzlich Frau Barbara Hoheisel, Frau Doris Runzer und Frau Dagmar Hake.
