Das Agens, das auf die polierte Metalloberfläche einwirkt, löst verschiedene Phasen un- terschiedlich, und es entsteht ein Gefügerelief, bei dem die schwerer lös- lichen Bestandteile hervorstehen. A b b i 1 dun g 1 Gefügerelief eines langzeitig geglühten technischen Stahles a) Aufsicht b) Sicht in der Schliffebene Abbildung 1 zeigt das am Beispiel eines langzeitig geglühten technischen Stahles, dessen Gefüge, Abbildung 1a, im wesentlichen aus ot-Eisen- Mischkristallen, dem sog. Ferrit (1), und Mischkristallen des rhombi- schen Eisenkarbids (Fe, Me)3C, dem sog. Zementit (2), besteht (Me = Legierungsmetall). Durch das Ätzen erfolgt, Abbildung lb, ein gewisses Freilegen der Zementitteilchen. Denkt man sich diesen Vorgang konse- quent weitergeführt bis zum völligen Auflösen des Ferrits und völligen Freilegen der Zementitkristalle, so kommt man zu einer "Isolierung" des Zementits. Gelingt eine Isolierung, so erhält man die freigelegten Teilchen, das " Iso 1 a t ", in Form eines feinen Kristallpulvers. Man kann es dann einer eingehenden analytischen und strukturanalytischen Untersuchung zuführen und auch viele weitere Eigenschaften, magnetische und optische, Dichte und chemische Eigenschaften leichter daran studieren, als das im Stahlgefüge möglich ist.
