O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito de v�rios extratos alcal�ides das folhas de R. stricta (um extrato aquoso total, uma fra��o contendo alcal�ides e uma fra��o sem alcal�ides deste extrato) sobre par�metros bioqu�micos associados � s�ndrome metab�lica em animais. A genotoxicidade e a carcinogenicidade da fra��o alcal�ide isolada do extrato aquoso de Rhazya stricta foram avaliadas molecularmente por RAPD e Comet e citogeneticamente pelo teste do micron�cleo. Al�m disso, as fra��es alcal�ides devem ser identificadas e testadas separadamente para determinar o componente dos alcal�ides presentes no extrato aquoso que � respons�vel pelo seu efeito mutag�nico.
