Estesa su una superficie di circa 1.500 km2, la foresta di EBO in Camerun ha attirato molta attenzione da quando l'ONG EBO Forest Research Project (EFRP) ha scoperto diverse specie animali a rischio e una ventina di specie vegetali sconosciute alle carte botaniche; Incoraggiato da alcune ONG, nel 2006 lo Stato del Camerun ha cercato di istituire questa vasta area come parco nazionale, ma si � scontrato con la dura opposizione delle popolazioni indigene, in particolare dei Banen, che hanno visto nell'iniziativa dello Stato di creare il parco nazionale un piano per espropriare definitivamente le loro terre ancestrali. Da allora, l'area forestale dell'EBO � diventata non solo l'epicentro di questioni geopolitiche, economiche ed ecologiche, ma anche il teatro di scontri tra una vasta gamma di attori con agende contraddittorie.
