Beide Gebiete sind aber in- zwischen so angewachsen, da jedes von ihnen eine gesonderte Einführung ver- dient hätte. Da andererseits der Umfang dieses Bandes beschränkt bleiben sollte, stand der Autor vor der Wahl, sich entweder auf ein Gebiet zu beschränken, oder aus beiden einige ausgewählte Kapitel zu behandeln. In dieser Einführung ist der erste Weg gewählt worden, obwohl auch die Beschränkung auf die Kol- loidchemie schon schwierig genug ist. Über sie gibt es eine Reihe guter Monogra- phien, und ein Blick in deren Inhaltsverzeichnis genügt, um dem Studenten den ganzen Umfang dieses Gebietes vor Augen zu führen. In dem vorliegenden Band wird daher versucht, sich auf solche Kapitel zu be- schränken, die entweder in den anderen Monographien nur kurz behandelt wor- den sind, oder solche, die in den letzten bei den Jahrzehnten hinzugekommen sind. Dabei lie es sich nicht vermeiden, einige Themen aufzugreifen, die auch in anderen Bänden dieser Reihe ihren Platz hätten finden können. So ist beispiels- weise die Phasenbildung eine vielstufige chemische Reaktion, deren Theorie je- doch im Band IV dieser Reihe aus guten Gründen nicht behandelt worden ist.
