Navigating Tuberculosis: Insights into Host-Pathogen Protein Interactions, the latest release in the Foundations and Frontiers in Enzymology series, explores the interactions between host proteins and the tuberculosis pathogen, Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb), emphasizing their roles in virulence and pathogenesis. The book delves into mechanistic insights, focusing on their roles in modulating innate and adaptive immunity and understanding TB pathomechanisms by elucidating the interplay between host defenses and M. tb infection. It provides a foundation for developing targeted mitigation strategies and discusses key regulatory pathways and protein factors involved in host-pathogen interactions, informing the design and implementation of innovative approaches to combat TB.
This comprehensive volume aims to advance knowledge and strategies to combat tuberculosis, aligning with the World Health Organization's goal of eradicating TB by 2035 by addressing the need for up-to-date information on host-pathogen interactions in tuberculosis and incorporating the latest research findings and advancements. It highlights emerging therapeutic targets among host and TB pathogen proteins and integrates multidisciplinary approaches from microbiology, immunology, and molecular biology, offering a holistic perspective on TB pathophysiology. Researchers will find detailed discussions on key host proteins involved in tuberculosis pathogenesis, the molecular tactics employed by M. tb to subvert host defenses, and host-mediated inhibition strategies targeting M. tb.Ehtesham, Nasreen Zafar: - Professor Nasreen Z. Ehtesham completed her Master's degree at Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, and pursued graduate training at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. She earned her Ph.D. from the National Institute of Immunology, New Delhi, in 1991, followed by a Rockefeller Postdoc Fellowship at the ICGEB. As Deputy Director at the National Institute of Nutrition, Hyderabad, her research group focused on nutrition and inflammation biology, particularly in elucidating the link between pathogenesis, inflammation, and stress response using the Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection model. Prof. Nasreen Ehtesham has contributed extensively to decision-making bodies of the Health Ministry and S&T Ministry and has published over 100 research papers in esteemed journals like PNAS, garnering over 5000 citations. She served as Director-in-Charge at the ICMR National Institute of Pathology, New Delhi, and is recognized as an Elected Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, the National Academy of Sciences, India, and the Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences, India. She has received numerous awards, including the ICMR Kshanika Award in 2014 and the Outstanding Work of the Year Award from NII, New Delhi, in 1990. Prof. Nasreen Ehtesham is a member of various professional societies and serves on the editorial boards of several esteemed journals, including Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry (Springer) and Gut Pathogens (BioMed Central). Presently, Prof. Nasreen Ehtesham is a Distinguished Professors at Sharda University.
