This book outlines organometallic compounds (OMCs) in the marine environment, focusing on their analytical and ecological aspects. Divided into 6 chapters, the authors discuss OMCs' occurrence, chemical structure, and environmental impact of OMCs in aquatic systems. In this book, readers will also find critical insights into the sources and effects of OMCs on marine ecosystems, with detailed discussions on extraction methodologies, stability, and speciation analysis. The book highlights advanced analytical techniques such as gas chromatography and atomic absorption spectrometry, providing a thorough understanding of the latest approaches for evaluating OMC levels in marine environments.

Particular attention is given to the fate and behaviour of OMCs in various environmental compartments, their ecotoxicology, and molecular modelling studies describing toxicity mechanisms. The book also addresses global distribution patterns with a focus on hotspots and evaluates joint efforts for prevention and sustainability.

This volume is indispensable for researchers in marine chemistry, postgraduate students, industry scientists working on environmental pollutants, ecologists studying marine ecosystems, and policymakers involved in environmental protection. It invites readers to think critically about sustainable development goals related to clean water (SDG 6) and life below water (SDG 14), emphasizing the need for continued research to mitigate the impact of hazardous materials like OMCs, and for policy development.

Tarek Othman Said is a Professor of Marine and Analytical Chemistry at the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF), Alexandria, Egypt. Late Dean of the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF), Mediterranean Branch, Alexandria, Egypt. With over 35 years of experience, he specializes in environmental monitoring, marine pollution, and analytical techniques for detecting heavy metals, hydrocarbons, and pesticides. He has played a key role in developing NIOF's infrastructure and academic programs in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Dr. Said has published around 100 research papers and serves on the editorial boards of several scientific journals. His work focuses on pollution assessment, risk analysis, and sustainable environmental solutions.

Gehan Mohamed El Zokm is a professor of marine and analytical chemistry at the National Institute of Oceanography and Fisheries (NIOF), Alexandria, Egypt. Her research covers various topics in analytical and environmental chemistry, with a focus on water quality, sulfide models, sulfur fractionation, halogen chemistry, speciation of heavy metals, eutrophication, organic pollutants in marine ecosystems, and predicting the worst-case scenario for chronic mixed ecotoxicity of different pollutants. She is a professional in statistical analysis for monitoring programs. She leads multiple research groups and has authored over 70 publications and four books. Dr. El Zokm is actively involved in supervising graduate research, arbitration of master's and doctoral theses, reviewing manuscripts for top publishers, and providing environmental consultancy services. Her work also includes the extraction of natural products, surfactant chemistry & ecotoxicity, and advanced water treatment methods. Her study emphasizes eco-sustainable strategies, the associated challenges, and a circular economy that leverages the marine environment.
