Dieses Heft der OFFENEN WELT beruht auf den Referaten und Er- gebnissen der 4. stiftungspolitischen Arbeitstagung der Wirtschaftspoliti- schen Gesellschaft von 1947 am 3. Dezember 1966 in Frankfurt am Main. Das Thema dieser Arbeitstagung: "Gemeinnützigkeit" fand das beson- dere Interesse des Stifterverbandes für die deutsche Wissenschaft. Wirt- schaftspolitische Gesellschaft und Stifterverband haben sich daher ent- schlossen, die Referate, zusammen mit weiteren Beiträgen zum Thema Stiftungspolitik, einem grö eren Kreis zur Kenntnis zu bringen. Die langjährigen Bestrebungen beider Organisationen zielen in die gleiche Richtung: nämlich die Wirtschaft noch stärker für gemeinnützige Aktivi- täten, insbesondere auf dem Gebiet der Wissenschaft und Bildung, zu gewinnen. Durch ein solches Engagement stellt die Wirtschaft nicht nur ihre gesellschaftspolitische Mitverantwortung unter Beweis, sie handelt damit zugleich auch im langfristig verstandenen eigenen Interesse an der Sicherung der Wachstumskräfte. Wipog und Stifterverband sind überzeugt, da weder die öffentliche Hand noch ein Spendenwesen, das sich herkömmlicherweise eher an Wohl- tätigkeit und Lückenbü erfunktionen orientiert als an den sachbezogenen Erfordernissen zusätzlicher Investitionen in die geistigen Bereiche und im Blick auf die Zukunft, den stetig wachsenden Forderungen gewachsen sind, die die moderne Gesellschaft an unser Wissenschafts-und Bildungswesen stellt und stellen mu . Es bedarf vielmehr einer systematischen und breit- angelegten Mobilisierung privater Initiativen zu "stiften", und zwar im weitesten Sinn des Wortes und unter Ausschöpfung aller konkreten Mög- lichkeiten.
