Background: le piante selvatiche commestibili (WEP) sono componenti vitali dei sistemi alimentari tradizionali, poich� supportano la nutrizione, la salute e la resilienza dei mezzi di sostentamento nelle regioni soggette a insicurezza alimentare e vulnerabili dal punto di vista climatico. Nell'Etiopia orientale, in particolare nella regione somala, le comunit� fanno affidamento sui WEP per integrare la dieta e far fronte alle carenze alimentari stagionali. Tuttavia, la documentazione completa sulla diversit� delle specie, sulle conoscenze indigene e sulle sfide legate alla conservazione rimane limitata. Questo studio ha valutato la diversit�, i modelli di utilizzo, le conoscenze indigene e la rilevanza per la salute pubblica dei WEP nel distretto di Gursum. Metodi: da febbraio a dicembre 2024 � stata condotta un'indagine etnobotanica utilizzando interviste semistrutturate, discussioni di focus group, passeggiate guidate sul campo e indagini di mercato. Un totale di 100 informatori, inclusi 25 informatori chiave, sono stati selezionati attraverso un campionamento mirato e a valanga. I campioni di piante sono stati raccolti e identificati utilizzando riferimenti tassonomici standard, con numeri di voucher assegnati. Sono stati applicati indici etnobotanici quantitativi e analisi statistiche (ANOVA, regressione) per esaminare la distribuzione della conoscenza tra i gruppi socio-demografici.
