I didn't start with answers.
I started with a question I couldn't ignore.
A question that followed me into conversations, into silence, into the smallest moments where something felt slightly off, slightly misunderstood. Not enough to be explained easily but enough to be felt, over and over again.
Am I German... or autistic?
It sounds like a strange question at first. Maybe even an impossible one. But for me, it became a doorway into confusion, into reflection, into a deeper search for understanding that I didn't know I needed.
Because what I was really asking wasn't about nationality or diagnosis.
I was asking: Why do I experience the world differently? Why do people read me in ways I don't recognize? Why does "normal" feel like something I'm constantly observing, but never fully part of?
This book is not a medical explanation. It is not a cultural analysis. And it is not a guide with clear, simple answers.
This is my journey through the space in between.
The space where behavior is misinterpreted. Where personality is confused with condition. Where labels try to explain what they don't fully understand. Where you begin to question not just how others see you-but how you see yourself.
I wrote this for the moments that are hard to describe.
The moments where you replay conversations, wondering what you missed. The moments where your silence is misunderstood. Where your honesty feels out of place. Where your way of thinking doesn't quite align with what's expected-but still feels completely natural to you.
I wrote this for the quiet struggle.
Not the loud kind that demands attention but the internal one. The one where you are constantly adjusting, interpreting, analyzing... trying to exist in a world that seems to run on rules no one ever explained to you.
There were times I wondered if I needed to change.
To speak differently. To react differently. To become easier to understand.
But somewhere along the way, I realized something important:
Maybe the problem wasn't that I was difficult to understand.
Maybe the problem was that I had been understood too quickly.
This book is about slowing that down.
It is about questioning the assumptions we carry about people-the way we interpret behavior, the way we define "normal," the way we rely on labels to make sense of complexity.
It is also about reclaiming your own understanding.
Learning to separate what is truly yours from what has been projected onto you. Learning to sit with confusion without rushing to define it. Learning that identity is not something you are handed-it is something you come to understand, gradually, honestly, and sometimes uncomfortably.
I am not offering you a conclusion.
I am offering you a perspective.
A way of seeing yourself and others with more depth, more patience, and more clarity.
If you have ever felt misunderstood without knowing how to explain it... If you have ever questioned why you don't quite fit into what feels expected... If you have ever wondered whether the way you are seen reflects who you truly are
Then this book is for you.
Not to give you a label.
But to help you see beyond them.
