Ursprünglich in dem nördlich von Ulm, am Rande der Schwäbischen Alb, gelegenen Dorf Weidenstetten verwurzelt, hat der Stamm im Laufe der Jahrhunderte drei gro e Familienäste entwickelt. Indem er chronologisch die Entwicklung dieser drei Äste nachzeichnet, schlägt der Autor einen weiten historischen Bogen von den Zeiten der Reformation bis zur Mitte des 20. Jahrhunderts. Mit einer Vielzahl ausführlicher Personenporträts gibt das Buch lebendige Einblicke in den Alltag vergangener Zeiten und ermöglicht unterhaltsame Ausflüge u. a. in das damalige Justizwesen (Reichskammergericht), die Arbeit reichsstädtischer Verwaltungsorgane (am Beispiel von Esslingen) und des Handels (am Beispiel von Ulm). Mit seiner abwechslungsreichen und höchst informativen Zeitreise durch fünf Jahrhunderte süddeutscher Geschichte wendet sich der Autor nicht nur an Familienangehörige und Genealogen. Dank kenntnisreicher Verknüpfung des Familiären mit zeit-, sozial- und glaubensgeschichtlichen Entwicklungen ist "Drey grüne Bentzen" auch eine Fundgrube und ein Gewinn für alle historisch interessierte Leserinnen und Leser. Rainer Bunz, geb. 1944, Studium der Germanistik, Anglistik und Amerikanistik in Munchen, Tubingen und Medford, Mass. (USA). Beruflich zunachst im deutsch-amerikanischen Kulturaustausch engagiert, war er von 1974-1979 Filmreferent beim Gemeinschaftswerk der Evang. Publizistik, von 1980 bis zur Versetzung in den Ruhestand im Jahre 2009 Spielfilmredakteur beim Ersten Deutschen Fernsehen (ARD). Seit ca. 2000 familiengeschichtliche Studien und Veroffentlichungen.
