Orlando Da Silva was, by every external measure, a success story: trial lawyer, Senior Crown Counsel, future President of the Ontario Bar Association. But behind the polished rsum, he had silently been fighting depression since childhood.

In 2008, that silence nearly killed him.

"Thank God I Failed" traces the arc of a life shaped by depression's persistent lies, and the people, moments, and stubborn acts of defiance that exposed them.

Along the way, Da Silva confronts Canada's debate over medical assistance in dying for mental illness, arguing from hard-won experience that what saved his life was not the right to die, but the refusal of others to let his worst moments define his future.

This is a field manual for staying alive, by revealing our minds to be unreliable narrators of our own worth.

Da Silva, Orlando: - Orlando Da Silva, LSM, is the Chief Administrator (CEO) of the Administrative Tribunals Support Service of Canada, where he leads a national organization supporting twelve federal tribunals. A trial lawyer for over twenty-five years, former President of the Ontario Bar Association, and contributing author to The Right Not to Remain Silent (LexisNexis), he has dedicated more than a decade to dismantling the stigma around mental illness in professional life. He has spoken to over 200 audiences, completed two cross-country speaking tours, and been featured extensively in Canadian and international media, including the Toronto Star, CBC, and Sky News UK. His advocacy has been recognized with the Law Society Medal, the CAMH Transforming Lives Award, and the eponymous Orlando Da Silva Award for Improvement of Mental Wellbeing in the Justice Sector. He lives in Uxbridge, Ontario, where he plays chess, draws charcoal portraits, and practices the violin with more enthusiasm than skill.
